By definition, Animation is the process of making the illusion of motion and change by means of the rapid display of a sequence of static images that minimally differ from each other. Animation is achieved using various techniques.

In the earlier days, an animator used to draw every single frame on a piece of paper and photograph it. To create the illusion of movement, each traced drawing differs slightly from the one before it. When played together, it creates the illusion of movement.

Today, there are different techniques used and each technique gives a unique and interesting output. For instance, stop motion technique is used where in real life objects are manipulated to create movement where as in live action animation; drawn images are inserted within live action to create drama.

Animation has widened its horizons with the usage of different mediums. Paper cut-outs, puppets, clay, sand, models and many more mediums give ample scope to animators to experiment.

2D Animation is more commonly used for info-graphic video clipping within the film. 3D used to be a more expensive platform but now it is used immensely in product packaging and title designs.
